This section of the website focusses on potential students, students and Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapists members, supporting them at every stage
of their career. Here you will find details of all the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that are currently available across the UK, with links
to each programme of study and details of other Continuing Professional Development activity the Society is involved with, that includes our 2 Journals,
the bi-monthly Dental Health and the Annual Clinical Journal.
The definition of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) issued by the GDC is “study, training, courses, seminars, reading and other activities undertaken by a dentist or dental professional, which could reasonably be expected to advance their professional development, as a dentist or dental professional” (GDC 2011).
As part of registration requirements with the General Dental Council (GDC), Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists are required to develop themselves through CPD in order to deliver high quality patient care; they are required to provide evidence of this to the GDC on an annual basis.
As a Society, we deliver a variety of CPD opportunities and it is important that we maintain the quality of all our courses and they comply with GDC CPD requirements. We are committed to supporting our members in the provision of CPD to both our students in training, and to Dental Hygienists and Dental Therapists through our annual 2-day Oral Health Conference held in November of each year. We also have 12 Regional Groups across the UK and these groups host full day meetings to provide CPD and networking opportunities.
